From Islander to Influencer
That’s a wrap for the winter series of Love Island 2020! What a series it has been, hey? As a nation, we’ve been glued to our TV screens for weeks. We’ve seen a whole lot of ups, downs and everything in between (and we really do mean everything).
This year’s islanders have made us cry, laugh and feel all the emotions. After more than five weeks in the South African sun, it’s time for the islanders to pack up their cases and head on home. Their time in the villa may be up, but their social media followings are continuing to rise and their journey as social media influencers has only just begun.
Winners: Paige Turley and Finley Tapp
Paige and Finn stole the hearts of the nation and were crowned the winners of the winter series of Love Island 2020 .
From shower singing at the talent show to teary declarations of love at the Love Island Prom, Paige and Finn took viewers on quite the ride.
Thanks to her past as a singer and having Lewis Capaldi as her ex-boyfriend, Paige entered the villa with 28,000 followers on Instagram. After winning the reality dating show, she left with more than 1.1 million - an increase of 4,115%. Impressive!
Finley began the show with just 8.5k followers, leaving with almost 900,000 and an increase of 9,943%! Look out Paige, Finn’s catching up to you.
Runners Up: Siânnise Fudge and Luke Trotman
Although they were front-runners throughout the show, Siânnise and Luke T merely missed out on the top spot, instead, leaving the luxurious South African villa as this year’s runners up.
Known for her love of all things Disney, Siânnise found her Prince Charming in the form of Luke Trotman, bringing Love Island viewers along for their fairytale journey. Fans were completely invested in the couple’s relationship - from love triangles to that moment when Luke asked Siânnise to officially be his girlfriend, our hearts just couldn’t handle the cuteness.
Siânnise’s social media has seen the biggest increase amongst the rest of the islanders. Siânnise’s Instagram following has risen from 6,500 to almost 900,000 - a whopping increase of 13,268%! Who will be next to hit the one million milestone, Siânnise or Finn?
Luke isn’t too far behind his ‘Princess Jasmine’, as he entered the villa with just 6,000 followers and now has almost 700,000! We just can’t wait to see what this power couple gets up to outside of villa life.
Third Place: Demi Jones and Luke Mabbot
They may not be ‘official’, but Demi and Luke have been fan favourites since they arrived on the island of love. Since coupling up, the gorgeous pair’s popularity has continued to soar.
The couple had been unlucky in love until they found one another, with fans rejoicing when they finally coupled up. As well as their popularity, their social media followings have also continued to rise, with Demi entering the villa with just 13,500 followers on Instagram and leaving with over half a million!
Dubbed a Justin Bieber look-alike, Luke M arrived in South Africa with less than 10,000 followers on Instagram. After the Love Island finale, Luke’s following has skyrocketed as he has well over 700,000 followers.
We completely ship them, so fingers crossed they make things official asap.
What’s Next for this New Wave of Influencers?
With every new season of Love Island comes a new wave of social media influencers and we can’t wait to see exactly what’s in store for this year’s islanders.
Although they entered the villa on a mission to find love, the islanders also come out with a string of high-profile brands queueing up to work with them. Specialising in fashion, lifestyle and health and fitness, Love Island stars have become some of the most sought-after influencers in the industry.
Previous series have seen former islanders create their own edits and ranges with huge fashion brands, as well as becoming product promoters and even launching their very own brands.
