About Alex Scott...
Alex Scott MBE is a trailblazing British sports presenter, commentator, and former professional footballer who has become a leading voice in diversity, inclusion, and representation in sport and media. Born in Poplar, East London, in 1984, Scott's football career began at age eight when she joined Arsenal's youth system. She went on to captain the club, making over 200 appearances across three spells, and scored the winning goal in the 2007 UEFA Women's Cup final. Internationally, she earned 140 caps for England and represented Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympics.
Since retiring in 2018, Scott has become one of the UK's most prominent sports broadcasters. She made history as the first female pundit on Sky Sports' Super Sunday and the first woman to commentate on a men’s World Cup for the BBC. In 2021, she became the first full-time female host of BBC's Football Focus. Her insightful analysis and engaging style have earned her accolades, including the Royal Television Society's Sports Commentator of the Year award in 2020.
Beyond sports, Scott is a passionate advocate for equality and representation. She founded the Alex Scott Academy in 2011, the UK's first academy for female footballers aged 16–19, aiming to provide both athletic and academic development. Scott has also spoken openly about the challenges she faced growing up, including domestic abuse and racism, detailed in her memoir How (Not) To Be Strong.
In addition to her broadcasting and advocacy work, Scott has appeared on various television programmes, including Strictly Come Dancing, The One Show, and Bear Grylls: Mission Survive, which she won in 2016. Her versatility and commitment to positive change have solidified her status as a role model and influential figure in British culture
