About Steph Blackwell...

Steph Blackwell is a charismatic national treasure from the 2019 season of The Great British Bake Off, which saw her reach the final. The record-breaking baker from Chester has gone on to achieve wonderful things since her appearance on the famous television show.

Prior to her stint on The Great British Bake Off, Steph was a very good athlete, being one of the best in the country at hurdles. Suffering an injury that stopped her from being able to pursue this as a professional career, she went to university to study Psychology.

Steph has been open about struggling with mental health at this time of life, and even suffered an eating disorder which led to her being diagnosed with osteoporosis. In a bid to find new hobbies and improve her mental health, Steph started baking after her Grandad sparked her interest in it. This led to Steph applying for GBBO – and we’re so glad she did!

The nation was taken by Steph’s infectiously adoring personality, making her a fan-favourite. Although she didn’t win the competition, primarily self-taught baker Steph still made history after she was crowned “Star Baker” a record four times throughout her time on the show, the most out of any contestant ever!

Since the show, Steph has gone on to achieve incredible things. From having her own column in the Cheshire Life newspaper to releasing her own baking recipe books, Steph has really become a role model for aspiring bakers alike. Her first book “The Joy of Baking” was released in 2021, followed by her second book “Bake Yourself Happy” being published a year later.

After Steph found out the tragic news about her father having terminal cancer, who has now sadly passed away, she challenged herself to run the virtual London Marathon in 2020 during the Covid-19 lockdown. As a result of this, Steph managed to raise over £30,000 for Cancer Research UK, which was an incredible achievement and one she should be extremely proud of.

Thankfully being in a better place mentally, Steph uses her Instagram page to advocate the importance of looking after your mental health, constantly supporting her large and loyal following and making them feel comfortable by sharing her experiences and road to recovery.
