About Charlie Craggs...
Charlie Craggs is a British transgender actress, activist and author from West London. Best known for launching the ‘Nail Transphobia’ campaign back in 2013, Charlie is an inspiration to the LGBT community, doing her best to support the movement as well as raise awareness and offer her own personal advice.
Growing up in Ladbroke Grove, West London, Charlie attended the London College of Fashion. As part of her university course, Charlie launched the ‘Nail Transphobia’ campaign. The movement saw Charlie offer individuals free manicures in exchange for a chat about their experiences and journey as someone who has transitioned, in an attempt to reduce transphobia.
Only beginning as a university project, the campaign grew to be a pop-up salon which appeared at different events and locations. Recognised for the outstanding work it was proving to do, in 2015 Charlie was placed 40th in The Independent newspaper’s “Rainbow List” of the 101 most influential LGBTI people in the UK.
Furthermore, the campaign was recognised for its brilliance again in 2016, when Charlie led the “New Radicals” list by Nesta and The Observer newspaper.
A year later in 2017, Charlie published her first book titled “To My Trans Sisters”. The novel contained a great collection of letters that Charlie had received from successful trans women, once again to help support people who may be struggling with the transition. In 2018, the book was a finalist in the 30th Lambda Literary Awards.
Moving into television, in 2021, Charlie fronted the BBC Three documentary, Transitioning Teens, a programme about transgender teenagers who were waiting to be seen by the NHS regarding their transitions and their journey so far.
