Successful Influencer Campaigns Throughout the Global Pandemic

At the beginning of 2020, just about everybody turned to the internet in a bid to not only stay connected, but as a way for businesses to stay afloat, too.

While bricks and mortar stores temporarily (and for some, permanently), shut up shop, business owners relied entirely on the power of social media and the internet for marketing their brand

And whilst influencer marketing resides predominantly online anyway, 2020 and what we’ve seen so far of 2021, has seen the industry utilise social media a whole lot more.

In fact, we’d go as far to say that influencer marketing thrived throughout the pandemic. And, in a time when many businesses were faced with the harsh reality of going under, it goes to show just how impactful influencer marketing campaigns really are.

So much so, that in 2020, online content consumption doubled, and digital media accounted for 59% of all global ad spend, proving just how many brands and businesses turned to social media in their hour of need.

With that in mind, we thought we’d share some of the best influencer campaigns throughout the global pandemic.

But first, how exactly do brands and businesses create a successful influencer marketing campaign? Here, we tell you our top tips to do exactly that, giving you food for thought for your influencer marketing strategy.

How to create a successful influencer marketing campaign

The key to a successful influencer marketing campaign is trust and authenticity. Brands should work with influencers that share similar values to that of the business and its products. Not only that, but influencers should be relatable to their audience, with content that is relevant to each platform.

Whether you’re a brand seeking to raise brand awareness, visibility or are aiming to generate sales, then you may want to consider working with influencers.

The best influencer marketing campaigns throughout the global pandemic

Whilst most people were stuck indoors, we relied on our favourite influencers to keep us entertained. From TikTok influencer campaigns to Instagram Reels and of course, the main feed – social media influencers kept our spirits up when we needed it most.

So, let’s get started, shall we?

Vodafone

The first campaign we were a part of, and thought was particularly impressive, was Vodafone’s launch of its 5G network.

What should have taken part across multiple cities throughout the UK, had to be completely altered to align with the UK’s lockdown restrictions at the time.

Rather than admit defeat and postpone the campaign, Vodafone began to think outside the box and went ahead with the campaign anyway.

Taking the campaign virtual, Vodafone teamed up with five popular influencers; Sam Thompson, Max George, Gemma Atkinson, Tallia Storm and Em Sheldon, all of whom created fun and engaging content to celebrate the launch of Vodafone’s 5G network.

Spreading the word through a virtual game titled ‘Find Unlimited AR’, Vodafone gave people the chance to win a variety of items.

In The Style

Throughout lockdown, people were either on furlough or working from home, so it came as no surprise that jeans and usual office attire stayed firmly at the back of our wardrobes.

We swapped tough denim for comfy loungewear, and online retail giant In The Style was leading the way. Working on multiple campaigns with a plethora of social media influencers, the fashion brand launched several collections, homing in on the ever-changing needs of its audience.

From cosy loungewear and pyjamas, to the perfect ‘work from home’ outfits, In The Style and influencers including Billie Shepherd, Jacqueline Jossa, Saffron Barker and Olivia Bowen, knocked it out of the park.

Staying relevant and meeting the needs of their audiences, all whilst remaining considerate of the current climate - well done, ITS.

Disney+

Launching at the very beginning of the first UK lockdown, Disney Plus came at just the right time.

With children off school and people forced to work from home, it was the streaming service we didn’t know we needed.

And in the very peak of lockdown, we worked with Disney+ to celebrate the launch of Frozen II on the app. To do so, we teamed the brand up with a number of parenting influencers, such as Binky Felstead, Samantha Faiers, Jacqueline Jossa and Ferne McCann.

Raising awareness of the film’s launch on the app and sharing fun, Frozen-themed unboxing videos to Instagram, the campaign was timed perfectly.

Eleventh Hour Beauty

Following the UK’s lockdown, many industries took a huge hit, but the hair and beauty industry particularly suffered.

So, with that in mind, Eleventh Hour Beauty teamed up with Olivia Bowen and launched its #standwithsalons campaign. Supporting the industry and helping business owners to get back on their feet, the campaign consisted of Olivia sharing her hair and beauty favourites, and promoted its booking services through social media, press interviews and Q&As.

As a well-known beauty and lifestyle influencer, Olivia was the perfect match, and the campaign was a huge hit!

Reading Eggs

During the pandemic, families and parents were tasked with home-schooling their children, and to aid them through this time, social media influencers took to Instagram to promote home learning platform, Reading Eggs

ML Hudson and Meet the Greers were just two of the families that took part in this campaign and helped support those that were home-schooling children.

Providing families with access to a free trial, the campaign really homed in on the uncertain times children and parents were facing and supplied them with much-needed support and advice.

This is a fine example of a brand providing its audience with a solution to their problems whilst keeping up to date with their ever-changing needs.

So, there we have it! Those are just a few examples of influencer marketing campaigns that achieved great success during the global pandemic.
